A multitude of different pathogens can cause diseases, therefore understanding their ecology, evolution, genomics and phenotypic expression is essential to provide future solutions.

The research group for genomic epidemiology has as a focus on developing tools and solutions for analyzing pathogen genomic data, which are mainly computationally based. This is also combined with different wet-lab investigations and verification of the data for the bioinformatic pipelines and verifying in silico findings through dedicated laboratory experiments.

In addition, we conduct teaching involving development of skills in conducting laboratory investigations. Most of our focus is on bacterial pathogens and metagenomic samples (e.g. faeces).
