PhD Project in the Physics of Biomolecular Condensates and Protein Dynamics Niels Bohr Institute Faculty of SCIENCE University of Copenhagen The Niels Bohr Institute, Section for Biocomplexity and Biophysics, invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in the physics of biomolecular condensates and dynamical protein concentrations.

The project is part of the research project PHOSCIL, financed by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Start date is 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project Living cells must respond to external stresses, and in order to do so they organize their resources in both space and time.

Two of the most striking manifestations of this are liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS), where molecules spontaneously demix and form biomolecular condensates, and oscillatory protein concentrations, where the level of a key regulator varies periodically in time. Both are classical phenomena in physics, and within the last decade both have been found to be central to the regulation of living organisms.
