Key tasks

Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout requirements. Measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required shapes using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine. Threads pipe using threading machine. Tests piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.

Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications. Securing pipes to the ship and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment. Attach one pipe to another in order to lengthen the run or change the flow direction in a plumbing system1 …
